Progress With Chess
The mission of Progress With Chess is to improve the lives of local youth through chess.
Chess programming after school has been recognized as a valuable resource in suburban schools for decades and PWC aims to make this resource available at schools within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District at little to no cost.
Students who participate in our programs are engaged and challenged, reap the benefits of this intellectual game, have increased self-esteem, patience and gain skills that are beneficial not just in chess but in life as well. Motivated students also are provided the opportunity to become welcomed members of the chess community.
Currently, Progress With Chess teaches in 61 schools in the Cleveland region, most of which are located in areas where the modest cost of the program is easily absorbed. Unfortunately, many schools in Cleveland have expressed interest in our chess programs but possess little funding to provide programming to their students. As a result, many children in low-income areas are unable to enjoy the same benefits.
We believe all children should have access to our wonderful program. For this reason, PWC is raising $10,000 to provide chess programming in the CMSD school district. These funds will be used to pay for quality instructors, sponsorship of CMSD students into tournaments, educational materials, and chess sets and for kids. We hope that you will consider joining us on our quest to change the lives of at-risk youth using chess.
